BUILD ANOTHER
WORLD BASED ON SHARING
AND SOLIDARITY
In 1949, the Abbé Pierre founded, near Paris, the first Emmaus community around a basic principle: to fight effectively against poverty, we must allow the poorest to regain their dignity through work and solidarity towards those who suffer most. Sixty years later, the Emmaus companions are at the heart of a major communities Movement that offer a real alternative of life and society.

TOGETHER,
WE CAN REBUILD
THE WORLD
An Emmaus community offers much more than a roof and a job to the companions that it hosts. It allows everyone to stand up again, each one at his own pace, through the exercise of a solidarity and supporting-others oriented activity. Every woman, every man, becomes a vital link of an endless solidarity chain, from the comfort to homeless people in their neighbourhood, up to the investment in North-South partnerships.
The items that are recovered from donors or those they bring to us directly are sorted out and re-valued in an effort to re-use, which is the economic base of our business. At a time when sustainable development has become a fashion effect, Emmaus stubbornly continues to defend reusing, which allows to reduce waste. And it goes even further: power-generating projects (wood recovery, solar), agricultural activities and even green buildings (eco-construction, recycled materials) are emerging everywhere
FIGHTING AGAINST
THE CAUSES OF POVERTY
Historically, Emmaus mobilizes to make the public opinion and governments react in view of unbearable situations of exclusion. Based on the actions of its groups in the field, the Emmaus Movement has constantly denounced and called for creating awareness and attacking the causes of exclusion, clearly asserting its autonomy and freedom of speech.
